Billie Eilish Strikes again on TikTok: “Slumber Party” Rehearsal (X)

“we r hot” show dance rehearsal with commentary (hilarious sexy fun)

After her wild Ukulele post popped up on her crazy subterranean TikTok account and a couple of random posts since, today Billi Eilish posted what appears to be a impromptu reversal video with some hilarious commentary. Set to the song “Lost Cause” (very hot now).

The account which only has 8 videos since it first popped up has 29.6 million followers (of course!) and 122.2 millions likes, and the video (below) already has 3.2 million in the first hour. Today’s video dropped around 4:30 PM Pacific time on June 3, 2021. The first full video on the account – other than the Ukulele post mentioned above. That one went live on November 13, 2020.

It’s pretty clear from the humor, voice over and the attitude that Billie loves the vibe and spontaneity of TikTok and this video and her rogue account style fits right in!

LInk to Video on TikTok

Even at the relatively elderly summit of 19 her sultry, dark style along with top of the world presence continues to command loyalty and love for her music and style. Her recent biographical photo book was also a hit and the new songs will likely continue at the top of our summer list. The documentary is great also.

Oh, and the WORLD TOUR starts in September! Starting off, where else? Las Vegas.

Oh. So. Pro.: Apple’s new slogan for iPhone 13 Pro is both Obvious and an Infinite Enigma

Above: Photo Collage / Apple / Lynxotic

Simple, to the point, yes. But what is the point?

Why go pro? Well, anyone who uses an iPhone in a work or business context can clearly benefit from the power under the hood (A15), and the new, better ways to communicate (messages, FaceTime, email improvements, etc) and manage information exchanges (notes upgrade, photo searching, live text, etc.).

And, let’s be honest, who that uses an iPhone for business doesn’t always want the newest and best? And who actually does have the funds to pay the lofty prices? On the face of it the slogan and the superficial idea it proposes is a simple extension of the demographics of Apple’s customer base.

The motto iPhone 13 has received is just the newest in a venerable pantheon of slogans created for some of the most successful and forward thinking ad campaigns. There are even those that feel that steve jobs had even more talent for choosing a marketing strategy than for anything else. Starting with the now historic super bowl ad for the original mac, which to this day is heralded as one of the best one-minute commercials ever Apple has ever since been known as a cult-like company that took an unfamiliar product, at a time when desk-top computers were virtually non-existent and sold them as something that could magically bestow a better life, and even contribute to the building of a better world.

The ad told the story of the apple home computer as the next big thing, and cast the macintosh product line as a true hero that would stand up to a projected story of corporate tyranny, embodied in IMB, Apple’s rival at the time. This was potentially the first tv commercial to sell a corporate identity, the Apple story as a cultural story, rather than as the first low cost microcomputer system.

Based on George Orwell’s dystopian novel, 1984 the ground breaking ad had one of the most unusual business mottos as the closing credit; “On January 24th Apple Computer will introduce Macintosh. And you’ll see why 1984 won’t be like ‘1984.’ “

Though the commercial has been considered a huge success ever since, the rest of the story is that the general population was not quite ready for apple’s iconic game-changer at the time, and the high price of the first product version was, responsible for poor sales ultimately a commercial disaster.

Nevertheless, the technical revolution of the product, including the first graphic command interface, would eventually create millions of Apple fans, imbue the public with a sense of identification with the company as underdog, and the commercial would gain its rightful place as the best marketing tool of that era.

Decades later the legacy would be part of the road that Apple took to becoming a profitable company and eventually one of the world’s most powerful global enterprises.

The second, and possibly even more influential and best marketing campaigns would be ‘think different’ slogan, launched on August 8th, 1997.

This motto and the ad campaign that famously followed represented a whole new vision for not only how to promote the brand and increase sales without featuring a single Apple product, but also served to introduce apple fans to the idea of a different kind of change.

It signaled a new direction, both internally with the return of ad agency TBWA Chiat/Day after a ten year hiatus, but also making clear reference to the break from the downward trajectory that company had faced in the absence of Steve Jobs between 1985 and 1997, both leaving and returning on the same day, September 16.

This eternally iconic campaign with it’s clever yet engaging slogan, emphasized the concept of iconic misfits, and how they, as the “crazy ones” would embrace new ideas and change the world.

‘Think different’ ultimately became the most successful and famous tagline in the history of Apple. The text from one of the first commercials in the campaign had a brilliant script, read by Richard Dreyfuss;

“Here’s to the crazy ones,” Dreyfuss intoned. “The misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers — the round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently.”

Among the 17 great historical icons whose images were used in the first one minute ad, meant to link Apple innovation to the worlds all time great 20th century thinkers and doers, were; Albert Einstein, Pablo Picasso, Martin Luther King, Bob Dylan, Amelia Earhart, Mahatma Gandhi, Maria Callas, Richard Branson, Muhammad Ali, Jim Henson (and Kermit the Frog), Ted Turner, Thomas Edison, Martha Graham, Frank Lloyd Wright and John Lennon (with Yoko Ono).

Subsequent to the launch other tv ads as well as print, posters and billboards featured a variety of these plus additional icons.

Here’s what Apple says about the A15 Bionic chip in the iPhone 13 Pro:

With 5-nanometer technology, A15 Bionic — the fastest chip in a smartphone — features a new 5-core GPU in the Pro lineup that brings the fastest graphics performance in any smartphone, up to 50 percent faster than the leading competition, ideal for video apps, high-performance gaming, and the slate of new camera features.

On the surface then, it’s all good, the three terse words evoke the natural and logical, it’s a simple, clever slogan that targets the upper “Pro” demographic with an expensive but really cool device.

Lurking beneath is a mountain of meaning that connects to decades of research and innovation at Apple

But, wait, all the new iPhone 13s, along with any that use iOS 15, share many of the same “Pro” features, and thus we must all adapt to the embarrassment of riches, on some level.

Many questions arise; with “Pro” cameras (3x +) and software that leverages advanced chips, the neural engine, machine learning to extend our senses further in multiple directions at once, is there more going on here than meets the (camera’s) eye?

neural

Here’s more from Apple about the A15 Bionic chip in the iPhone 13 Pro:

A faster Neural Engine in A15 Bionic, new ISP, and advancements in computational photography power the all-new camera features on iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Photographic Styles allows users to bring their personal photo preferences to every image while still benefitting from Apple’s multiframe image processing.

If we are all aspiring toward a Pro iPhone for our Pro digital lives are there trade-offs and lurking benefits that are not as obvious as better photos, videos and more digital eye candy? If we are all destined to be Pro then is Pro destined to be just “normal”?

The evolution from analog to digital to a pre-metaverse life

Work from Home has now been dubbed “Fully Distributed Workforce”, meaning work from anywhere. This is conceivable due to the accelerated transition to an economy where everything is digital, computerized and removed from atoms (other than robot assisted tasks like building Teslas, etc).

Less than total, but more and more pervasive, the lives we lead are not enhanced by our cyborg extensions (previously known as “smart phones”) but rather the life itself takes place in this soon to be enhanced alternate reality.

The new 6-core CPU with two new high-performance cores and four new high-efficiency cores, is up to 50 percent faster than the competition and handles demanding tasks smoothly and efficiently. A new 16-core Neural Engine capable of 15.8 trillion operations per second enables even faster machine learning computations for third-party app experiences, as well as features like Live Text in Camera with iOS 15. And major advancements to the next-generation ISP provide improved noise reduction and tone mapping.

Long before a video-game-like AR and VR metaverse emerges, we are already experiencing a large part of our waking hours, both for work and “leisure” through the portal of our devices and the internet.

https://www.apple.com/newsroom/videos/iphone-13-pro-cinematic-mode/large_2x.mp4

In many ways, this is so obvious as to need no mention, and yet, what is a Pro life in this digital universe worth compared to a “non-Pro” version of the same life?

The new Apple silicon hardware / software and all eco-system transition – already long underway and projected to converge into an early stage Kurzweilian Singularity of Apple in around 2024, is what will determine the nature of existence for the rest of the decade.

With software, hardware, and now AI and machine learning, all having a continuous and presumably infinite upgrade cycle, isn’t that like a kind of eternal life, at least for our digital selves, if not for our biological baggage?

https://www.apple.com/newsroom/videos/iphone-13-pro-promotion/large_2x.mp4

Enter the iPhone 13 Pro; suddenly the experiences we wear as we take part in the fully distributed workforce sparkle and dazzle and become more effective and pleasurable to navigate.

The human link in the chain, absorbing, adapting, learning, digesting all these upgrades and improvements and how they change our work and play is a game of catch-up that will never end.

At this moment, the new “memories” feature in photos, combined with the new cameras in the iPhone 13 Pro Max are going to change how I view my immediate past (as reflected in the “memories” created by AI and machine learning forays into my ever growing photo library).

And that will make my ancient iPhone 5 photos seem as antiquated as a polaroid from 1984. And how will the current, insanely crisp, macos lensed food snaps look next to my “only great” iPhone 12 Pro portrait mode plates?

Not that these are weighty problems or even musings, but when your world is in the pre-metaverse of the Apple ecosystem in 2021, these thoughts do arise.

Are we all heading to a life where everything is Pro?

While, on the one hand, the goal of eternally enhanced digital communication is a very useful and important one, a possibly essential upgrade to our species just in time to prevent a climate apocalypse, on the other hand, how will the fully distributed workforce look once we are all Pro.

The transition from brink & mortar, skin, sinew and gray matter to a digitally enhanced cyborg communication center in our pocket is at a very early stage, to be sure.

At the same time things, including the relentless Apple upgrade cycle are going very, very fast, indeed.

If we are all destined to measure our contributions to work and society based on enlarged, enhanced communication capabilities, that enhancement will include what was once called “multi-media”. Hi resolution photos and videos, video calls with portrait mode, hell, feature films we shoot on the weekend, all the bells and whistles that once seems like a “hobby” for pleasure and in a rare case profit, all will now be central to our very existence.

Starting now, we are all Pro. The brightest and best will be more, they will be Oh. So. Pro.

‘Avatar: The Way of Water’: Trailer divides critics but did they see 3-D version?

The first trailer, a teaser really, of the second iteration of Avatar is finally here, unless you went to the theater to see “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” where the trailer was first released.

Returning cast members Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Giovanni Ribisi are present for Avatar 2.  There is also said to be a variety of new characters, a couple of which will be played by Kate Winslet and Michelle Yeoh.

There are some that are none too thrilled with the lack luster teaser…. Maybe because it didn’t really feel all that much like a “trailer”, or it could be, the original Avatar was a movie in which you went to the theater, put on special 3D glasses and was an experience. Watching the 2D video clip online didn’t pack the punch or awe-factor that many have been waiting for.

It’s a common theme with James Cameron movies – the plot and concept are so “perfect” but nearly generic is that perfection. Then all the effort and $$$$ is lavished on special effects and execution of that archetypal concept.

Will this, admittedly ultra-successful recipe work in 2022? Hard to say – this will be a big, huge, ultra-promoted blockbuster release no matter what. Little chance of besting Avatar ‘1’ but could be less than a disappointment even if it does not hit the $1 billion mark.

Check out the trailer below, the nearly 2 minute video clip, in glorious streaming 2D, doesn’t present audience with much in the way of a plot line besides showing the Na’vi in Pandora and having to defend their territory against invaders.

“Avatar: The Way of Water” is currently scheduled for a theatrical release at the end of the year on December 16:

‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0’ is a huge new film release you might not have heard about

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is a prequel to the extremely popular anime series Jujutsu Kaisen which held #1 slot in Japan for six weeks after its release in December 24 of last year.  The Japanese blockbuster is headed for release in the U.S. and its not too late to jump on the anime train for this upcoming action fantasy film.

Jujutsu Kaisen has been a household name in the manga world since 2018. So when the anime series hit it was quickly named “Anime of the Year” in 2021 and was a trending topic on Twitter for weeks after its release.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 takes place 1 year earlier from Season 1 of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series.  The story follows Yuta Okkotsu a high school who gains control of an  powerful evil cursed spirit named Rika.  Yuta attempts the dual existence as a regular teenage and also having extreme physical powers that he is unable to control.

Yuta agrees to enter the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School in order and be trained by sorcerers after he continues to unintentionally harm people because of the Rika spirit.

Yuta must learn to control his power and only use for the greater good.  Jujutsu Kaisen 0 gives good fundamental context to the anime series, which again is perfect if you want to start the journey.  The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen is said to return later in 2023.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will be released in theaters starting March 18 with the option to watch dubbed in English or in Japanese with English subtitles.

‘WeCrashed’: Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway in Apple TV pic on Epic Rise and Fall of WeWork

Above: Photo / Apple

Jared Leto plays WeWork cofounder Adam Neumann and Anne Hathaway plays his wife Rebehak in the new Apple TV+ drama “WeCrashed”. The series will chronicle of how the company’s skyrocketed towards a $47 billion valuation in less than a decade, then quickly and dramatically plummeted

Neumann, who served as CEO for the company from 2010 to 2019 and later resigned was well known for his megalomania and wild pronouncements of ambition. Becoming ‘King of the world’ was not beyond his imagination. According to reports at the time, his “eccentric behavior” was one of the main reasons he was pressured to step down.

The series is part drama for the entertaining over-the-top reenactments of the antics and impulses of Neumann (Leto) and part exploration of the era of insane exploits at start-ups, as well as part love story, showing their crazy ups, downs, best and worst of times while WeWork is being built.

Not the first to tackle this subject matter, after 2021’s WeWork: Or The Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn, which was a documentary feature, this star driven Apple TV+ series is clearly aimed at being entertaining first, but still is a thoughtful exploration of the excesses and the era that produced them.

Along with the recent trial of Elizabeth Holmes who was found guilty on four out of 11 federal charges relating to her own megalomaniacal fraud spree at billion dollar start-up Theranos, there’s a building oeuvre of film work, such as HBO’s: The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley chronicling the era of excess that is still ongoing.

Apple TV+ is also getting in on the Theranos action. In an upcoming release Jennifer Lawrence will again team up with director Adam McKay (Don’t Look Up, also with JLaw), for Bad Blood. Release date is not yet known, only that it will be based on Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by Pulitzer Prize-winner John Carreyrou.

“WeCrashed: The Rise and Fall of WeWork” will debut its first three episodes on Apple TV+ starting March 18 with new episodes airing every week on Friday.

‘The Lost City’ with Sandra Bullock, Brad Pitt and Channing Tatum: an Entertaining, Trashy-Fun Romp

Loretta Sage (played by Sandra Bullock) is a best-selling author, known for her popular romance novels. Most of her writing career has been spent behind closed doors, alone, creating love stories about her hero character named “Dash”.

All of her book covers have Dash portrayed by model Alan (played by Channing Tatum). During a book tour to promote her latest release, Loretta brings Alan alongside, although she really can’t stand him and thinks he’s just a dumb male model but her female fanbase love him.

On the tour, Loretta is kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire (played by Danielle Radcliffe) who thinks she may have the secrets to ancient lost city’s treasure as she’s written in her book. Alan who wants to prove he is not just the cover model for the character Dash, but can be a real life hero sets out to rescue Loretta.

If you are wondering why Brad Pitt is not mentioned in the plot summary, he is, alas, in a cameo appearance that came about in an amusing way, according to the quote from Sandra Bullock:

“He and I have the same hairdresser and she told him to do my movie and she told me to do his movie. That is — honest to god — the truth. We went through a whole litany of people. He was like the eighth choice.”

– Sandra Bullock on casting for ‘The Lost City’

What comes next is what you can expect from a gold ole treasure hunt in the jungle: snake pits, explosions and a heroine in distress. Just like Netflix’s “Red Notice” although its not an Academy Award winner, it is a guilty pleasure, escapist piece of entertainment.

“The Lost City” will be released in theaters March 25.

‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’:  the Existential Sci-Fi Thriller a beyond Wild trip into Multiverses

The new sci-fi action film debuted at SXSW’s opening night. The title says its all “Everything Everywhere All At Once” deals with the chaotic adventure of an exhausted Chinese American woman, Evelyn who is struggling to finish her taxes. But that’s not all she’s dealing with: a marriage on the fritz, her strained relationship with her daughter, and oh yea, the universes (multi) that are collapsing on each other.

Actress and veteran action star Michelle Yeoh plays Evelyn. Yeoh is best known for her work in “Croching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” yet has been in over 40+ movies including “Shang Chi”, “Crazy Rich Asians” and “Guardians of the Galaxy”.

While at a tax appointment, something strange happens  (with her crazed tax auditor played by the iconic Jammie Lee Curtis), she finds herself experiencing alternate selves – versions of Evelyn that has bad-ass martial art skills, one that can speak English fluently, and strangest of all, one where she has hot dogs for fingers!

A full fledged multiverse that’s collapsing and only can be stopped with the help from all of her alt-world counterparts keeps the action and visual stimulation at peak levels with the story, though twisted, still present and accounted for.

The film will be released March 25 and stars Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, Ke Huy Quan, Harry Shum Jr., Jenny Slate with James Hong and Jamie Lee Curtis. Produced by the Russo Brothers of Marvel’s Avengers fame, initial release is for theaters and no streaming platform has been announced at this date.

‘Ms. Marvel’ Trailer presents Disney’s first Teenage Muslim Superhero

Expansion of MCU inspired films continues

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is revealing new content to be released via Disney+, this time introducing the youngest superhero, Kamala Khan played by Iman Vellani, AKA Ms. Marvel.

At just under 2 minutes, the first trailer showcases some of the type villains a typical high school girl would presumably face, bullies at her high school. She gets picked on in particular because she’s an extreme comic book fangirl who idolizes Captain Marvel (aka Carol Danvers played by Brie Larson).

The original Marvel comic “Ms. Marvel” was first created in 2013, and if the comic is an indicator of the upcoming series story arc, there will be a focus on Kamala’s coming of age struggles (puberty, homework and yes, boys), becoming a superhero, and navigating teenage life with her Pakistani American Family.

“Ms. Marvel” will debut Kamala Khan as the first Muslim teenage superhero. The new series will be available to Disney+ subscribers starting June 8 with new episodes airing weekly. We will also see the young actress later next year sometime in 2023 reprising her role in the sequel to “Captain Marvel” called “The Marvels” which will feature Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, alongside Vellani.

Watch the first official trailer of “Ms. Marvel” below:

Release of ‘The Batman’ halted in Russia even as it prepares for Wide Release in US

Film release cancellations in Russia added to boycotts in response to invasion

Just days ahead of the highly anticipated theatrical release of “The Batman”, Warner Bros. made the swift and necessary decision to cease any distribution plans in Russia. A spokesperson for the studio said in a statement, “In light of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, WarnerMedia is pausing the release of its feature film ‘The Batman’ in Russia”.

While getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, British actor, known for his latest roles in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “The Power of the Dog” also called specifically for action to bring the assault on Ukraine to an end, when he emphasized in his speech that “This is no longer a time for avarice or sloth or inactiveness or ineptitude. We need to act.”

Walt Disney Co. and Sony Pictures also have plans to pause any releases of their films in Russia which includes the previously scheduled release of the Pixar film “Turning Red” for March 10, as well as Sony’s “Morbius” which is currently slated for release early April.

The Ukrainian Film Academy called for an international boycott of the Russian film industry. The Motion Pictures Association also condemned Russia for its attack and made the statement that it  “stands with the international community in upholding the rule of law and condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.”

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Trailer for 80-Minute Extended Cut is Here

SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME – Special Features Preview-

Photo / Sony Pictures

Tom Holland’s third time around in the Marvel Franchise, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, dominated box office numbers, smashing all time box office records. Not surprisingly, used on all the success, there’s a general attitude to say ‘why not just keep it ‘a-coming?‘.

The rumors of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield making an appearance, that generated major buzz, appear to finally be coming to fruition on the big screen. Now, Sony Pictures is back again quelling more rumors that an extended cut will be available.

The studio took to social media to reveal they are indeed dropping “over 80 minutes” of new and behind the scene footage. They also dropped the gem below, the finger-pointing meme of the 3-generations of Spider-Man.

The Extended cut of Spider-Man: No Way Home will come in digital format for release starting March 22 and a little layer the 4K Ultra HD and Blu-Ray will be available for fans on April 12.

Brad Pitt’s next Action Thriller is coming: Revealed by the Deceitful new Teaser for ‘Bullet Train’

Screen Grab / Teaser Trailer / Sony Pictures

Book bodes well for Suspense and Action

The 30 second teaser trailer from Sony Pictures starring Brad Pitt has just been released. The video clip comes off as an advertisement for the Nippon Speed Line (NSL), a (fictional) new and fast mode of transportation, with beautiful scenery of Japan alongside soothing and tranquil music. Yet, it appears anything but as we are left with the last frame of battered face Brad Pitt (who plays a character name Lady Bug).

The tag line “Get on Board March 2” is presumably when we can expect the official trailer to be released. The action thriller is based on the international best selling book by Japanese author Kotaro Isaka.

The film follows a group of assassins that are traveling together on a bullet train, soon coming to realize that their individual missions are, in fact, connected. High Speeds, violence and chaos will naturally follow.

Brad Pitt isn’t the only big name within the cast, there are also Sandra Bullock, Joey King, Michael Shannon and Logan Lerman, to name a few. And that’s not mentioning director Leitch who’s onboard, best known best for his work in “John Wick”.

“Bullet Train” is currently scheduled for theatrical release July 15, 2022.

Matrix 4 Resurrections 2nd Official Trailer is out: Watch Now

Digital vs. Post-Apocalyptic, the Matrix Resurrections latest trailer continues with mystery and confusion

The new preview hints at repeating loops (deja vu) and even scenes from previous films from the trilogy.

The foundations of the Matrix movies always played with the question of what is reality, and that it can be both artificially created and manipulated.

In a world of two realities – everyday life and what lies behind it – Thomas Anderson will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more,” reads the movie’s official synopsis. “Choice, while an illusion, is still the only way in or out of the Matrix, which is stronger, more secure, and more dangerous than ever before.”

Fans gets to see Jada Pinkett Smith’s character Niobe with a drastic transformation.  In addition it appears that Jonathan Groff’s character is playing Agent Smith.

There’s a hint that something special is lurking beneath the entertaining endless action sequences

Both Neo, looking, just like Keanu a lifetime removed and yet the same, and Trinity appear to be aiding the cause by bringing a kind of effortless perfection to the cast – No need to mention John Wick or any intervening saga, this is a continuation, or more aptly, a resurrection of what was so amazing in the time, place spirit of that original film.

A thread like an unbroken through line, connecting the 1999 moment anew, yet absorbing the intervening changes to the fictional worlds of artifice within the films and to a third, that we, the audience, have grown with bringing us to December 22, 2021.

Naturally, some images produce more curiosity and questions than they answer, even when a still frame is isolated and studied. There is a particularly interesting interaction with the rooftop crowd in this case (above) and the image begs the question: will Neo lead uprisings both within the Matrix and the revolutions in the “real” world?

What kinds of mental challenges and trickery will a more mature Neo encounter while in the Matrix? This shot also produces mystery and begs for speculation regarding the script and how the various logical and illogical pathways will be traversed.

Multiple flash frames do confirm that a romantic adventure and escape will extend the story of Neo & Trinity, and that, while perfectly fitting, also appears to be something that could add more interest on a level above the intervening sequels (2 & 3). For all these reasons and many more, it does look like the buzz and building anticipation will start here and just keep growing until we all have a chance to experience the film in its entirety. On December 22, 2021 either in the Theater (best!) or on HBO Max for subscribers.

If anything, it feels like there is a depth and poignancy to the characters, the images and the implied story that extends and deepens the original, as a great sequel should do. For once it’s as if the maturity of the main stars in the cast is not an obstacle to manage or navigate but a built in feature.

As per W.B. press kit: The film also stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Candyman,” the “Aquaman” franchise) Jessica Henwick (TV’s “Iron Fist,” “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens”), Jonathan Groff (“Hamilton,” TV’s “Mindhunter”), Neil Patrick Harris (“Gone Girl”), Priyanka Chopra Jonas (TV’s “Quantico,”), Christina Ricci (TV’s “Escaping the Madhouse: The Nellie Bly Story,” “The Lizzie Borden Chronicles”), Telma Hopkins (TV’s “Dead to Me,”), Eréndira Ibarra (series “Sense8,” “Ingobernable”), Toby Onwumere (TV’s “Empire”), Max Riemelt (series “Sense8”), Brian J. Smith (series “Sense8,” “Treadstone”), and Jada Pinkett Smith (“Angel Has Fallen,” TV’s “Gotham”).

Lana Wachowski directed from a screenplay by Wachowski & David Mitchell & Aleksander Hemon, based on characters created by The Wachowskis. The film was produced by Grant Hill, James McTeigue and Lana Wachowski. The executive producers were Garrett Grant, Terry Needham, Michael Salven, Jesse Ehrman and Bruce Berman.

Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett prove a Dangerous Pair in Thriller ‘Nightmare Alley’

Despite the title of the upcoming film, “Nightmare Alley”, the new Bradly Cooper / Cate Blanchett starrer is not a horror movie or anything in the realm of the otherworldly or comic book are fantastical. Instead, it’s a very different type of movie, which perhaps less surprising once you take into account that it is the newest work from Guillermo del Toro who is best known for his supernatural films like “The Shape of Water” or the franchise “Hellboy”.

In this outing, it’s a somewhat obscure genre; a larger-than-life-update to a 40s noir classic with a unique aesthetic, perhaps more fitting for 2021.

Perhaps, given the star studded cast, it aims for academy cred, such as last years “Mank” without the obvious Orson Wells connex.

The official “Nightmare Alley” synopsis from Searchlight Pictures reads: “When charismatic but down-on-his-luck Stanton Carlisle (Bradley Cooper) endears himself to clairvoyant Zeena (Toni Collette) and her has-been mentalist husband Pete (David Strathairn) at a traveling carnival, he crafts a golden ticket to success, using this newly acquired knowledge to grift the wealthy elite of 1940s New York society.

With the virtuous Molly (Rooney Mara) loyally by his side, Stanton plots to con a dangerous tycoon (Richard Jenkins) with the aid of a mysterious psychiatrist (Cate Blanchett) who might be his most formidable opponent yet.”

The remake of the 1947 film noir classic, inspired by the 1946 novel of the same name. The official trailer gives viewers a sneak peak at the upcoming creepy psychological thriller that will premiere in theaters December 17.

Funny or Die: in ‘Don’t Look up’ – Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence tackle the End of the World

A race against time in order to save the world is ostensibly the schema of the latest Netflix film “Don’t Look Up”. DiCaprio plays as professor Dr. Randall Mindy and JLaw is an astronomy grad student. The pair stumble across a life-changing discovery… that a comet is on a collision course for Earth.

Based on first impressions film may be more of a accurate allegorical send up for our real life climate crisis. In the film, when the scientists raise the alarm to the U.S. government about the comet, the response, in typical bureaucratic insanity is to “sit tight and assess”, just as has been the case for over 30 years regarding global warming (joke delivered by the wildly funny Jonah Hill).

The über impressive cast has a handful of extremely talented actors including (in addition to the marquee stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence); Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Ron Perlman, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, Cate Blanchett, and Tyler Perry.

The movie was both written and directed by Adam McKay, the Oscar Award winner responsible for “The Big Short” and “Vice”.

Similar to those films, his patented multi-layered approach is in play, where comedy, absurd pathos and a “laugh about the tragic stupidity of the human race” reigns.

And, possibly, with this amazing cast, it will be the most successful iteration to date.

A huge departure, if you take the correlation to the looming climate extinction level events at face value, is how the film is focused on the future (a fictional one, but still looking forward) for a change.

While both “The Big Short” and “Vice” chronicled a historic event or personage, this time, it is the potentially devastating human inability to see past their own self absorbed pathetic existences that is lampooned.

And if we can all laugh at ourselves and somehow get the message underlying, what meanwhile appears as great comic entertainment, perhaps the outcome can be altered. Or at least we can appreciate the absurdity as we all go down in flames.

The comedy will be released in select theaters on December 10th and two weeks later be available for subscribers to stream free on Netflix, starting on December 24th

Sandra Bullock is ex-convict for ‘The Unforgivable’ in Dramatic Turn

You can see the new trailer starring Sandra Bullock in new role for “The Unforgivable” below. The film will be the first turn for the actress since 2018 when she played in the strange post-apocalyptic thriller “Bird Box” for Netflix, which was met with wild success. Bullock will both star and act as producer in this, her 2nd project with the streaming service.

Based on a viewing of the snippet from the trailer, this film looks to be on track as a top contender among the growing lineup of new fall and winter movies rolling out, which also include Benedict Cumberbatch in “The Power of the Dog” and Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in “Don’t Look Up”.

The official synopsis from Netflix:

“Released from prison after serving a sentence for a violent crime, Ruth Slater (Bullock) re-enters a society that refuses to forgive her past. Facing severe judgment from the place she once called home, her only hope for redemption is finding the estranged younger sister she was forced to leave behind.”

The upcoming drama is scheduled for release in select U.S. theaters on Nov. 24 and drops to stream on the Netflix on Dec. 10th.

Billie Eilish Wows again on TikTok: Rehearsal “Slumber Party” (X)

“we r hot” show dance rehearsal with commentary (hilarious sexy fun)

After her wild Ukulele post popped up on her crazy subterranean TikTok account and a couple of random posts since, today Billi Eilish posted what appears to be a impromptu reversal video with some hilarious commentary. Set to the song “Lost Cause” (very hot now).

The account which only has 14 videos since it first popped up and has 35.4 million followers (of course!) and 190.3 millions likes, and the video (below) got a whopping 3.2 million in the first hour and currently has accumulated 80 million views to date. The first full video on the account – other than the Ukulele post mentioned above. That one went live back on November 13, 2020.

It’s pretty clear from the humor, voice over and the attitude that Billie loves the vibe and spontaneity of TikTok and this video and her rogue account style fits right in!

Even at the relatively elderly summit of 19 her sultry, dark style along with top of the world presence continues to command loyalty and love for her music and style. Her recent biographical photo book was also a hit and the new songs will likely continue at the top of our summer list. The documentary is great also.

Oh, and the WORLD TOUR 2022 starts in February! Kicking off in Smoothie King Center, New Orleans, LA, however, unfortunately tickets for that show has since been SOLD OUT!

Watch Video: How to add Covid-Vaccination Card to your Apple Wallet

Finally: the whole package – and a convenient way to prove vaccination status

Now that the iOS 15.1 update is available for the general public featuring the ability to add your proof of vaccination status to the Health app and then create a vaccination ID card in Apple Wallet, it’s time to jump right in and make it happen

Many businesses, venues, restaurants, and more are requiring proof of vaccination for entry. For example California is the first state where proof of COVID vaccination or negative test is mandatory for indoor events over 1,000 people.

The new feature in iOS 15.1 is made possible by the support Smart Health Cards which are valid for California, Louisiana, New York, Virginia, Hawaii, and some Maryland counties, as do Walmart, Sam’s Club, and CVS Health.

Above: ID in iPhone Wallet

Therefore, using this system you would be able to to look up the information in state databases, if you are in any of the states listed above, but if you were vaccinated through at Walmart or CVS it will also be feasible retrieve your data from them to add your information to the Health and Wallet.

Once you have gone to the web site for your state, for example in California it would be found at https://myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov where you can type in personal information such as name and date of birth to get access to your records and status.

Though iOS 15 already had the ability to download the information to your Health app, and you could do that since the official launch of iOS 15, the last step, adding an ID to your wallet from the health app has not been possible until the new upgrade to iOS 15.1.

The record is locked to your name and can only be used by you. There will be a QR code that you will first download to your health app on the iPhone, then, once it is in the health app there will be a prompt to allow you to “add to wallet”. By clicking that link, a vaccination ID card, with the QR code will be generated and added to your wallet. See video above for more detailed, step-by-step explanation.

iOS 15.1 is available under > General > software update in your phone’s Settings app starting today.

  1. Tap the download link on your iPhone or iPod touch.
  2. Tap Add to Health to add the record to the Health app.
  3. Tap Done.

Once the ID is in the health app a button / prompt appears “add to wallet”.

Pi is not just the Secret of the Universe, it Might also be the Future of Cryptocurrency

Crypto converts are obsessed with price – Pi is not yet released but has a more important goal before an initial value is set: 100 million users / miners

Cryptocurrency and Blockchain are here to stay.

But does the world need yet another cryptocurrency?

Can a stable, safe currency be created that is more than just another speculative playground?

What if a coin could be mined by millions, even billions on their cell phones?

What if the mining proceeds were shared equitably by all?

What if transactions and trading could be administered and verified by the same billion users that are also the holders, traders and miners?

And what if the Pioneers would be able to use the Pi network to communicate and trade and brainstorm with each other?

Would that be a utopian fantasy?

The future is uncertain but Pi addresses many of the shortcomings of the current system

There are now so many crypto coins that just the names or the underlying concepts are difficult to list, let alone understand. With over 6,000 as of August 2021, it is not likely that very many will survive in the long term.

Cryptocurrency and Blockchain and the origins and technical backdrop that led to the current explosion of interest in buying, trading, owning and mining is maddeningly complex for beginners. For that reason please follow links from this page or see some of our previous articles for more information and background.

It’s natural that most of the attention by the media is focused on the top 10, even the top 2 cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin and Ethereum / Ether. Both are well established, and Bitcoin having a market cap (total of all outstanding coins multiplied by the current price in fiat dollars) of over 800 billion, is highly likely to survive

One issue for all crypto, however, is the way that they are mined, and how the blockchain ledger is maintained. The proof of work system for Bitcoin has pros and cons that have people debating if it can ultimately remain the standard.

Ethereum is undergoing a complex transition away from a similar system to a new variant, and this is touted by many as likely to lead to its ultimate superiority while others don’t see that as a given.

Price wars are getting all the attention but an alternative is quietly amassing millions of adherents

Meanwhile Pi (π), a little known alternative coin with a radical underlying concept, created by it’s core team based at Stanford, has a few very unique features. These deviations from the norm make for a new direction in how cryptocurrency can function. And the launch via a proprietary 3 phase plan is also unique and worthy of note.

While many alt-coins are fly-by-night fast buck scams, launched in weeks or even days, little more than an exercise in crypto-branding as an end in itself (Jake Paul has an NFT game coin launching September 1st, nuff said) Pi (π) is conceived with the polar opposite of this “wild west-fly-by-night” ethos.

Simply put, Pi (π) is a new cryptocurrency. Its claim to fame is that it was designed from the ground up to be “mined” by its users on their cell phones. It was also designed to be the most egalitarian and evenly distributed coin in terms of ownership.

Above: Photo credit Lynxotic / Adobe Stock

The founders, a group of P.H.D.s out of Stanford, wanted to design a next generation cryptocurrency that would solve some of the problems of the first generation, notably Bitcoin.

Perhaps due to the frenzy and mania surrounding the price increase, measured against the dollar, for Bitcoin and others, there has been precious little in the media taking the idea of wealth distribution among crypto coin holders (hodlers in the jargon of alt coins) and almost nothing about using millions (and eventually billions) cell phones to mine and what benefits could potentially be derived from doing exactly that.

One obvious benefit, which seems to solve the issue of massive amounts of electricity, particularly “dirty” electricity as opposed to sustainable power from solar, etc., currently used for Bitcoin mining.

A second related issue is the massive expensive machinery needed to mine even a single Bitcoin (currently around $50,000 in value) and the natural concentration of those mining proceeds going into the hands of a tiny number of huge companies.

Further, there is the problem of transaction difficulty and speed (slow) due to the system and the computer power required to maintain the blockchain ledger.

And with the massive and vast run up in price, that phenomenon that everyone’s so excited about, has put billions in USD$ value into the hands of early adopters and very few others, which is not desirable if you are one of the billions of people on earth who do not own any Bitcoin.

In phase 3 the potential of Pi will begin to be realized

The live launch of Pi (π) will come in stage three and until then the coin can not be bought or traded. The status of the project is currently in phase 2, known as Testnet, with over 23 million “pioneers” who mine and hold Pi on their cellphones.

A deeper level of the eventual expansion of the project, with a goal of 100 million users set, with an eventual billion user base not out of the question, is the fact that this base would automatically represent a “private” and separate internet of sorts.

There are plans in the works for trading, bartering and interacting much in the way social media and the web work today but without any intermediaries such a Zuckerberg, and no restrictions on interaction and transactions, other than the security built in to the system.

If this, or a similar system with the same goals and objectives, were to take off and take hold the level of potential impact on the world and especially existing the financial structures and even internet and social media communication would be mind boggling, to say the least.

Phase 3, known in Pi world as “Mainnet” is when the cryptocurrency will officially launch and be ascribed an initial value.

Here is an edited description for Phase 3 from the Pi official website:

When the community feels the software is ready for production, and it has been thoroughly tested on the testnet, the official mainnet of the Pi network will be launched. After this point, the faucet and Pi network emulator of Phase 1 will be shut down and the system will continue on its own forever.

Future updates to the protocol will be contributed by the Pi developer community and Pi’s core team, and will be proposed by the committee. Their implementation and deployment will depend on nodes updating the mining software just like any other blockchains.

No central authority will be controlling the currency and it will be fully decentralized. Balances of fake users or duplicate users will be discarded. This is the phase when Pi can be connected to exchanges and be exchanged for other currencies.

In development for over 2 years, the white paper was initially published on March 1st 2019, by the aforementioned team of Standford PhDs behind Pi.

Above: Photo credit Lynxotic / Adobe Stock

Pi is built on a unique concept from a legitimate source, looking to solve important problems

Currently there are 7,916 (as per CoinGecko) and if you want to dig deeper into why that number is not undisputed, and how the realm is still expanding at a very rapid pace, this is a good article to look into that.

However, the only question that matters for this article is why Pi is different than the rest and why the world might need it, even with so many contenders and pretenders already in the queue.

Pi is being developed at Stanford by a team headed by Dr. Nicolas Kokkalis, Head of Technology. A Stanford PhD and instructor of Stanford’s first decentralized applications class; combining distributed systems and human computer interaction to bring cryptocurrency to everyday people.

The primary and first raison d’être for Pi is built into its definition according to the Pi Network web site:

”Pi is a new cryptocurrency for and by everyday people that you can “mine” (or earn) from your phone”

Simple enough, but groundbreaking in consequence when seen from the perspective of the challenges and solutions that are being developed and promoted among the many others in the crypto space.

”Mining crypto is hard. Investing in crypto is risky. Too many of us are left out of the cryptocurrency revolution.”

— Pi Network

One big issue that has been on the radar relating to the future of crypto is how various mining (proof of work), ( proof of stake) or farming (proof of space & time)

Bitcoin is the top crypto currency and uses proof of work mining, Cardano is a coin that is based on proof of stake, as are also lesser known alt coins, including Polygon, Tezos, Polkadot and EOS. These proof of stake coins could all be overtaken in importance, however, by the project called Ethereum 2.0, which would take the second largest cryptocurrency which would be an alternative version of Ethereum that is based on proof of stake, rather than proof of work, as is currently the case for Ethereum (1).

Finally Chia is the most prominent example of farming using hard drive space and processing to maintain proof of space and time.

The current state of cryptocurrency conceptual frameworks and how Pi is different

Rather than going into a complex and contentious discussion of the various methods and coins listed above, suffice it to say that proof of work, which was built for Bitcoin and is the most established and recognized method for a blockchain solution to maintaining the security and privacy of the a cryptocurrency.

One of the reasons that these alternatives are cropping up, beyond the speculative frenzy and profit motives that accompanied the price peak in crypto earlier this year (2021), is the somewhat overblown outcry regarding the energy intensive process of proof of work mining as it is currently the norm for bitcoin mining.

This is a concern, and added to it is the fact that the most profitable method for mining bit coin is have an extremely large ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) farm which has reduced the goal of decentralization (DeFi) to a very large extent.

For these reasons and more, Pi is being developed to be the first truly decentralized crypto coin that is mined via cell phone and that does not therefore require special, extremely expensive, gear or huge amount of electricity.

During a panel for Television Critics’ Association, the HBO network confirmed that the GOT prequel is happening and will begin filming, starting in April. The prequel, “House of the Dragon” is co-created by George R.R. Martin and based off his book “Fire & Blood”.

The series will have a total of 10 episodes and star Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen and will tell the story of the Targaryen war that happened 300 years before events in the series “Game of Thrones”.

October Must Watch coming to Netflix, HBO, Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime: The best picks

Above: Photo Collage / Lynxotic

In any particular month, on any given streaming platform, besides the “endless” searching to find something you want to watch, there usually is one, or at best two, new incoming movies or TV shows “worthy” of watching.

This month may prove different, since, with the entertainment industry and movie production in full swing, there are buckets of better movies and shows to watch (and this state of affairs will potentially be the case for the remainder of the year).

We’ve broken down some Must Watch Movies and TV shows on each platform with and an overview:

Netflix

Whether its Jack Gyllenhall in the remake of the 2018 “The Guilty“, Andy McDowell is the limited series “Maid” or the prequel to Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead” – “Army of Thieves” there is plenty of content to keep us nice and entertained this month. Netflix is the power hitter this month as far as watch-worthy streaming content.

Several widely popular Netflix shows also have new seasons coming our way. First is “On My Block” with, sadly the 4th and final season. And then “You” based on the YA novel and in my opinion is probably the best of the Netflix shows to grace the platform this month. Next is “Locke and Key” and “The Baby-Sitters Club” both coming in season 2.

The Guilty – October 1:

The Maid – October 1:

On My Block – Season 4 – October 4:

YOU -Season 3 – October 15:

Army of Thieves – October 29:

HBO

Streamers get to take advantage of all Warner Bros 2021 films that gives subscribers the chance to watch theatrical releases the same day (for up to 31 days) on their HBO Max accounts.

For October there are 2 must watch movies, the highly anticipated “Dune” and “The Many Saints of Newark“. For TV Shows, the third season of the dysfunctional Roy family returns in “Succession“.

The Many Saints of Newark – October 1:

Dune – October 22:

Succession -Season 3 – October 17:

Apple TV+

This streaming platform is bringing us Sci-Fi and extraterrestrial extravaganza. The long awaiting adaption of Isaac Asimov in “Foundation” is available to watch. In addition. On October 22nd (when the first 3 episodes will be released), sci-fi fans can experience “Invasion” what it would be like to live through an alien invasion. Joy!

Foundation – Weekly Episodes – available now:

Invasion – Weekly episodes starting October 22:

Amazon Prime

Since October is obviously the month to bring on the season of spookiness, Amazon Prime has made it a priority is bringing some new horror content to the platform. The biggest original series that it will bring is the latest reboot to the classic ’97 slasher movie “I Know What you Did Last Summer”.

Also starting on October 1st – “Welcome to the Blumhouse” features a total of 4 horror features: “Bingo Hell” and “Black as Night” and then a week later on October 8, an additional two horror indies ” Madres” and “The Manor”.

If you aren’t in the mood for anything ‘scary’ and rather a music fan, specifically a Bieleber – his documentary is also available on Amazon Prime

The Guilty: For Fans of Danish Drama with a Side of Jake

Above: Photo / Netflix

Remake of the Danish Award winning hit will surely translate to big-time US success

Back in 2018, during the Sundance film festival, Jack Gyllenhaal watched a Danish film “Den Skyldige” (The Guilty). Immediately after experiencing the psychological thriller he knew it could be a hit in English.

The actor then quickly acquired the rights, and now he stars in the remake of “The Guilty“, which will get its premiere on Netflix October 1st, 2021.

During the time that production was initially set to begin for the film, suddenly covid-19 happened, and, as we all know, that put a halt to productions across the entertainment industry.

Yet this film, if it follows the original, is almost uniquely perfect for filming during a pandemic. The movie is primarily centered around one man in one location (everyone else is mainly heard over the phone) – thus the movie was ultimately produced by way of social distance, FaceTime and zoom chats by director and producers. (which is not to say he, at least, phoned-it-in, by any means).

Gyllenhaal plays a demoted police office that now works as a 911 dispatch operator named Joe Bayler. He receives a call from someone in danger, but throughout the call, which takes place in a single morning, nothing is as it seems.

Check out the trailer for the original 2018 version with English sub-titles, of course. The 2021 version set for the Netflix streaming platform does not, as of yet, have a trailer available. Aside from Gyllenhall, additional cast will mainly be comprised of voice performances by the likes of: Ethan Hawke, Peter Sarsgaard, Riley Keough, Paul Dano, Byron Bowers, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, David Castaneda, Christina Vidal, Adrian Martinez. Bill Burr, Beau Knapp, and Edi Patterson.

Tonight’s the Last Chance for Austin Powers, Kung Fu Panda & Star Trek on Netflix

Photo Collage / Lynxotic

Last Chance to watch on Netflix- Calling all Trekkies:

As what happens each and every month, the streaming platform needs more space for all the new incoming content and in order to do so Netflix needs to purge some titles out of its library. Midnight pacific time these titles will vanish.

The show Star Trek has been around for over 50 years. This might be some startling news if you have relied on Netflix to get your fix for the series. Three of the franchise series along with the 2009 movie are leaving. The TV show series had been streaming on the platform ever since 2011 and now, it seems its time on the platform has come to an end (possible forever).

Sci-Fi fans have all day today up until midnight to binge out on all things Star Trek: Star Trek the Movie,  Star Trek: Enterprise (Seasons 1-4), Star Trek (Seasons 1-3) and Star Trek: Voyager (Seasons 1-7).

Don’t fret, Paramount+ currently holds the full library for all the Star Trek so there is still an option to stream, however that means it is very unlikely the title will return to the Netflix platform.

Or rather, if you are feeling nostalgic, there are additional classics that will be gone including the “Austin Powers” series: Goldmember, International Man of Mystery, The Spy Who Shagged Me, and The Karate Kid I and II.
